How old is too old for exersaucer

This is all so informative. What do you think about allowing my 4 month old to sit or stand supported by me? She loves being in these positions but I wonder if they are bad for spinal development. At this point in time 4 months old , you do not need to have your baby practicing sitting or standing.

I would not suggest you encourage her to stand until she is learning how to pull to stand from a sitting or crawling position. Thanks for your great questions! As a mother of 4 and now a new grandmother, I was very pleased to have come across your informative blog.

When my 2 older children where born there was no source for info like yours. When my twins now 10 were born 15 years after my first 2, a whole new world of information had become available. I looked around for a post on walkers on your website but this is the closest I found. Hi Rana Leee, excellent question. As a professional, I would strongly advise against baby walkers even more so than exersaucers.

They can be both dangerous as well as detrimental to the acquisition of normal developmental skills. The American Academy of Pediatrics also discourages the use of baby walkers due to safety concerns and has recommended a ban on the production and sale of mobile baby walkers. Here are a few links where you can find more information about risks associated with using baby walkers:. Based on my experience, many babies will not tolerate being placed in an exersaucer for more than a few moments once they can crawl and move around on their own.

So informative! I was actually getting ready to purchase a Bumbo, Excersaucer and Walker when I came across your blog accidentally. So glad!! So is there anything you can recommend that would be good for my baby at this age, 4 months and has head control but does not sit up on his own yet. Also your thoughts on carriers that face him out would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! Rose, so glad you stopped by! Babies become easily overstimulated and cannot turn away from the stinulation when they are facing out. Plus, there are some positioning issues that are not so good for baby either that occur when facing outward. However, once baby is sturdy enough to sit in a carrier over to the side as if you were holding him on your hip , that will allow him to be able to look forward but also turn his head away if he becomes overstimulated.

The positioning is also better for him then facing out as well. Both the Ergo and Mayat Wrap Ring Sling allow for this side position but baby can also face in if necessary. Check them out and see what you think! I am happy to see that you explain the posture issues. BUT she learned to crawl, and now is learning to walk.

We packed away her pack n play a few months ago, she enjoys being out with us. And who can blame her, i wouldn't want to be stuck in such a small space. We turned her exersauce into a table, when we noticed her standing on the outside of it, and playing with the toys. We got our jumperoo at 2 months and it was packed away at 6 months. As soon as she learned to sit up, crawl and cruise it was history.

Eeek, the weight limit on mine is 25 lbs, my son is lbs now It was hysterical and I actually got it on video. That was the last time we used it :. We still have ours but our LO doesn't like it anymore. I haven't put him in it in a while I have a friend whos son is 8 months old and he has climbed out of his. Join now to personalize. May Birth Club When do you give up the exersaucer????????????? Got rid of it. She is too big and rather be moving.

ExerSaucers and baby jumpers are lifesavers when you need a quick five minutes to do something. ExerSaucers are absolutely fine for short periods: around fifteen minutes per day. Any longer than fifteen minutes are when you might start to see a developmental impact. The ExerSaucer comes with guidelines regarding when you should be putting it to one side for good. When your baby is either two years old or above 25lbs, your baby is considered to be too developed and probably too big to use the ExerSaucer.

If you notice your baby is struggling with the ExerSaucer, do not attempt self treatment based remedies. This article is for educational purposes and is meant to guide your decisions with your baby. Try not to disregard professional medical advice: If you have more questions or safety concerns about an ExerSaucer for your baby, consulting with a qualified healthcare provider is the best way to avoid a medical emergency and stunted development in the future.
