What do gymnasts spray on uneven bars

Some of the equipment can be as slick as ice, and gymnasts have had to get creative in order to keep a grip on things. For most, honey does the trick. Others use syrup. Whatever the sticky substance, they rub it on their hands, run their hands along the bars and then cover both with a layer of chalk.

The women have a similar routine on uneven bars, though most just spray water on them and then dust them with chalk. Each gymnast has his own concoction, a recipe developed through trial and error. Everyone kind of has their own little combination of how they like it.

It was just water. Every gymnast prepares the uneven bars to her own liking. To create the best stick, they use a mix of resin and water. They throw resin on the bars, then spray, then throw on some more resin. Male gymnasts often use honey or Karo syrup for a similar effect. They need a good grip as they complete giant swings, handstands and release moves.

The perfect grip won't keep a gymnast from missing the bar on a release move, but it can help her complete perfect handstands. It's used by every country.
